إيثان رانر (كيفين كوستنر) جاسوسٌ دولي يقرر ترك حياته المليئة بالمخاطر من أجل بناء علاقةٍ قويةٍ مع ابنته وزوجته. ظل إيثان بعيدًا عن ابنته وزوجته من أجل حمايتهما من المخاطر المحيطة به من كل جانب، ولكن يتعين على إيثان استكمال مهمة أخيرة قبل أن يعتزل وهي النيل من أخطر إرهابي على مستوى العالم، بالإضافة لمهمة أصعب وهي الاعتناء بابنته لأول مرة منذ عشرة أعوام حيث إن زوجته خارج البلدة.
