A luxury tour is organised with the selling point that popular travel journalist Nagiko Eki (Yoko Shimada) will be accompanying the group as a guide, but Eki herself cancels at the last minute. On the condition that Eki herself joins the group on the final day of the tour, her assistant, Etsuko Hijikata (Chikako Kaku), steps in to act as the tour guide. However, Etsuko and the tour escort, Ryohei Kadota (Eiichiro Funakoshi), find themselves at their wits’ end dealing with the endless whims of the seven celebrity middle-aged women on the tour. Amidst this constant turmoil, a series of deaths among the tour participants occurs, first in the South of France and then in Granada, Spain.
‘Seicho Matsumoto Drama Special: The Black Corridor’. Broadcast on 23 March 2004 (21:03–23:24) on the Nippon TV network. The setting is Southern France and Spain. Whilst retaining the characters from the original work, the methods of the crimes and the circumstances leading to their discovery have been largely adapted into an original storyline for the drama, and the background of the case has been relocated to Okinawa. A production commemorating the 50th anniversary of Nippon TV. Available on DVD.
Etsuko, Eki’s secretary and assistant, acted as the guide, whilst Eki himself was to meet the group in Granada on the final day of the tour. There were seven participants on the tour; Etsuko, together with the tour leader, Kadota, set off on the tour whilst catering to the whims of the posh ladies.
