تدور مجريات القصة في الأراضي الشمالية لهوكايدو، خلال فترة ميجي. بينما كان جندي الحرب الروسية اليابانية يصول عن الذهب لحاجته للمال، يخبره رجل غريب عن قصة شخصٍ سرق كمية كبيرة من الذهب وترك خريطة موشومة على أجساد زملائه في السجن. في وقت لاحق يجد الجندي الملقب بسوغيموتو الخالد جثة الرجل الذي أخبره بقصة الذهب، فينضح أنّه أحد السجناء الذين يملكون وشمًا على أجسادهم لمكان الذهب. فتبدأ مغامرة بقاء وبحث عن الذهب بعد أن يلتقي بفتاة من الأينو اسمها أسيربا.
