During the Northern Song Dynasty, foreign tribes coveted the territory of the Great Song, creating a confrontational situation between the Han and non-Han ethnic groups. Qiao Feng (portrayed by Felix Wong), the leader of the Beggars' Sect, was falsely accused of being a descendant of the Khitans as revenge for rejecting the love of Kang Min (portrayed by Yim Wai-ming), the wife of the deputy leader. He was despised by martial artists in the Central Plains. Determined to clear his name, Qiao Feng searched everywhere for clues about his origin. During this period, he met Duan Yu (portrayed by Benny Chan), the prince of Dali, and the monk Xu Zhu (portrayed by Fan Siu-wong), and they became sworn brothers.
The Vice-master of Beggars Sect MA TAI YUEN and the Elder CHAN lurk HAK LIN TIT SHU, who is the Commander-in-chief of Xixia. However they are trounced by SHU's subordinates – LI YIN CHUNG and “The Four Villains". Luckily the Master of Beggars Sect KIU FUNG arrives and saves them. FUNG and the Elder CHAN are hurt and they go to YUEN's house to rest. YUEN's wife HONG MAN is a charming lady who is proud of her beauty. She takes good care of FUNG as she admires him. However FUNG is not impressed by her charm. She feels humiliated. On the other hand, the Ex-master of Beggars Sect had left a secret letter to YUEN before he died. MAN has secretly taken a look at it and knows that it is related to FUNG's real identity. Being flooded with hatred, MAN wants to use the letter to ruin FUNG's fame.
