تدور أحداث المسلسل حول قصة الصبي روميو الذي كان يعيش مع عائلته في قرية صغيرة في سويسرا ثم يقرر أن يبيع نفسه لحاجته للنقود فيذهب إلى مدينة ميلانو الإيطالية ويبدأ هناك في العمل في تنظيف المداخن.
Romeo, a poor kid living in a Swiss village, bravely sells himself into servitude as a chimney sweep in order to save his family. On his way to Milan he meets a mysterious boy named Alfredo, and they become fast friends. Life as a chimney sweep is hard and dangerous. But together, and with the help of some new friends, Romeo and Alfredo find themselves striving for a better life.

Romeo wants to participate in the pole climbing competition, in which several boys compete to get a trophy placed on top of a pole. Meanwhile, Luini, a mysterious man known as the god of death, arrives in the village.
